Alessandro Michele's Muse Harry Styles: A Dissection

It's not often I get to share something with someone as famous as Alessandro Michele, the creative director for Gucci, but I can confidently say that I am as obsessed with Harry Styles as Alessandro seems to be. I am not ashamed to admit that I had a Harry Styles related blog on Tumblr years ago, wrote (and still have saved somewhere) some naughty fan fiction, only tweet about Harry Styles currently, and have a general move and admiration for this man. Not only is he talented, kind-hearted, a momma's-boy and a hard worker but he's not bad on the eyes either. I could go on for hours about why harry Styles would also be my muse, but that's not what I am here to dissect.

In the past we have seen Huberte de Givenchy shower Audrey Hepburn with love. Madonna was the powerhouse muse of Jean Paul Gautier. More recently Olivier Rousteing has described Kim Kardashian West as the perfect muse for Balmain. As a fan of Harry Styles, I can understand why he would be the muse of Alessandro Michele. Not only has Harry emerged from the demise of One Direction as the most successful of the five-some, he has invested in a variety of business opportunities to continue his success. These endeavours include producing a TV show about his time spent staying in TV show producer Ben Winston's attic, creating the record label Eskrine and hosting the Met Gala where he walked in with Alessandro.

Prior to hosting the Met Gala (and walking in) with Alessandro, Harry had been the face of the 2018 Gucci Men's Tailoring campaign. When it was announced that Alessandro would be one of the five hosts along with Harry, it was obvious Harry would be showing up in Gucci. At the Met Gala and since, Harry has been featured on Alessandro's Instagram countless times. Following this massive event, Harry was announced to be the face of the 2019 Gucci Men's Tailoring campaign. At this point I thought I couldn't be blind sided, but alas, I was wrong. This past month at the 2020 Gucci Cruise show, Harry not only attended but performed with Stevie Nicks and was announced as one of the faces of the new genderless/unisex/gender fluid fragrance Gucci was unveiling.

Making Harry the face of a gender fluid fragrance makes all of the sense in the world. Not only has he supported LGBTQ+ members loudly, proclaimed himself a feminist, has a Black Lives Matter sticker on his guitar, one of his designers for his debut solo tour, Harris Reed, is non-binary and Harry himself refuses to label his sexuality. On top of his massive success and love of all beings, he is a Gay Icon and breaking down male toxicity and gender norms at every turn.

Having Harry Styles as the Gucci muse makes sense for multiple reasons: his advocacy for oppressed persons, his likability, his talent, his face. I believe that this bold move has pushed Gucci into the eyes of Gen Z because of Harry's ongoing success and the continued relevancy of One Direction, while also securing the interest of older generations who admire Harry Styles for giving off the same rock vibes as Stevie Nicks and the Rolling Stones.

I, for one, cannot wait to see how Harry Styles flourishes under the wise guidance of Alessandro Michele, and where Gucci will take him.

XOXO,

Cropberry
